May 8, 2009 Dear Valued Supplier, Norfolk Southern is closely monitoring reports from health experts around the world about the H1N1 Influenza A virus and its potential for a global outbreak. For several years now, Norfolk Southern has had a Pandemic Task Force in place to prepare for such an event. Our response plan includes detailed steps to appropriately address safety and service at each pandemic alert level, as set by the World Health Organization and as directed by the U.S. government. Our plan focuses on business continuity, staffing, security, planning and procurement, risk management, medical and personnel policies, and travel. The plan is tested and updated regularly. In addition, we have launched an education and awareness program to encourage employees to prevent the spread of flu at work and in our communities, and to provide information to help families stay healthy at home. As a critical supplier, we encourage your company to have an effective plan in place to assure that you can maintain service levels necessary to support Norfolk Southern operations. We look forward to a continuing mutually beneficial business relationship with your company. R. D. White |
