Former NS Director McNair Dies
Robert E. McNair, former governor of South Carolina who served on Norfolk Southern’s Board of Directors from 1987-96, died Nov. 17. A native of Cades, S.C., McNair served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1951-63, as lieutenant governor from 1963-65, and governor from 1965-71, and until his death was chairman of the McNair Law Firm, P.A. NS CEO Wick Moorman said of McNair, “As a member of the NS Board of Directors, his judgment and wise counsel were invaluable. He was a strong and effective advocate for social justice, education and economic development in South Carolina, and he will be missed.”
