The Management Trainee program at Norfolk Southern consists of on the job training, professional training, department rotations, and operations training. The program can range from 12 months to 14 months dependent on department. Below is a model of the training program:

Professional Training
Operations Basics	Three weeks of technical training
Department Orientation	Generally one to four weeks depending on the department
Rotations	Enterprise-wide training. Varying in length by department. Ranging from 11 weeks to 19 weeks in length.
OJT	Department-specific training at field/department location. Varying in length by department. Ranging from 29 to 36 weeks total.
