Overview
As a Management Trainee in our Claims Department, you will learn how to investigate personal injury and property damage claims. Your training will teach you how to evaluate and negotiate fair and reasonable settlements in such matters and potentially aid counsel in the event of litigation. The training program will give you a broad overview of railroad operations.
Trainees are assigned to a location within our 22 state network for training. Upon completion of the program, trainees are promoted to their first supervisory position. Candidates must be willing to relocate several times throughout their career to be successful in this type of work.
What We Look For in a Candidate
An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. While we will consider any undergraduate degree holders, candidates with degrees such as business administration, psychology, risk management, justice administration or law enforcement are especially suited for this position. Candidates should have solid quantitative capabilities, negotiating abilities and strong interpersonal skills.
After Training
After the training period, individuals are generally promoted to a claim agent position and are relocated to a field office or a systems claim office. Your role will be to investigate either occupational or trauma claims involving company accidents in their respective geographic area of responsibility and exercise independent judgment in the settlement of claims within general settlement authority. You will deal directly with claimants, witnesses, subject matter experts and lawyers. You will evaluate and negotiate fair and reasonable settlements in such matters and aid counsel in the event of litigation. You may also assist trial counsel in defending the company’s interests in litigation.
