Hourly Positions
Hourly positions are jobs covered under a collective bargaining agreement and require union membership after a probationary period. Wages are paid on an hourly, daily, or monthly rate (depending on the position and applicable labor union agreement).
Professional Positions
Norfolk Southern continually seeks creative, team-oriented employees who have relevant work experience for various positions. When positions become available, we need experienced professionals. These positions occur in our three major office locations: Atlanta, and Roanoke and Norfolk, Va., as well as throughout the system for positions in operations management.
Management Trainees
Norfolk Southern offers several management trainee programs that help individuals transition from the academic world to true life applications in a working environment. The programs are designed to prepare individuals for management positions, many of which require supervisory responsibilities upon completion of the trainee program.
Co-ops/Interns
Our traditional co-op program hires college students who have a formal arrangement with their academic institution to alternate full-time work and school semesters. Interns are undergraduate or graduate students that work either full or part time for one term, usually during summer semester.
