The “Waste Line Express” is Norfolk Southern’s and the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority’s private-public partnership that was the first to use rail as the sole transportation link between a solid-waste transfer station and a landfill. The partnership emphasizes safety and protection of the environment and is an innovation in the waste industry.

March 1, 2012 Kaolin Public Price Adjustment:
Effective 3/1/2011, NS will implement a market based rate adjustment on many kaolin public rates in NS publications NSRQ 32952 (Section 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 11) and NSRQ 43310. Rates in contracts (NS or NSSC's) will not be affected.If you have any questions about these changes, please contact your NS Sales Representative or Mark Hackbart at mark.hackbart@nscorp.com.
- Feburary 01, 2012 Scrap Paper Public Price Adjustment:
Effective February 1, 2012, NS will implement a market-based rate adjustment on scrap paper public rates in NS publication NSQ 40241 on through rates to destinations in Mexico as well as to Mobile and Texas border points. These rates are not subject to a fuel surcharge. These rates have an open-ended expiration and therefore NS may choose to take an increase on these rates giving the customary 30-days' notice for public rate authorities.Questions? - November 15th, 2011 Pulp and Paper Public Price Adjustment:
Effective November 15, 2011 through January 6, 2012, Norfolk Southern will apply a 2% surcharge on most lanes of traffic held within NS publication NSQ 26000 (for pulpboard, printing paper, newsprint, and woodpulp). In addition, adjustments will also be made to selected lanes as well as to the �mileage� scale rates. These rates are not subject to a fuel surcharge. These rates have an open-ended expiration and therefore NS may choose to take an increase on these rates giving the customary 20-days' notice for public rate authorities. Norfolk Southern offers a “Renewed Commitment to Car Quality” video series to help shippers, receivers and the railroad network work together to maintain a good-quality, clean, railcar fleet. Our “Partnering for Quality Boxcars” video outlines steps for maintaining clean, quality boxcars and emphasizes the exterior doors on a boxcar. Some of Norfolk Southern's senior executives explain our renewed commitment to freight car quality and the value to you, our customers. The video also familiarizes you with basic boxcar components and the operation of boxcar doors. It demonstrates how a few simple steps can help keep boxcars in good, usable condition.
