The Metals & Construction Marketing team is dedicated to providing superior service to our customers. With the responsibility of providing all-rail transportation of iron & steel products, machinery, aggregates, miscellaneous construction materials, and scrap metals, our team strives to exceed the high satisfaction and quality assurance standards NS customers have come to expect. Through a broad network stretching across 22 states in the eastern US, Norfolk Southern is able to offer customers access to 37 integrated and mini mills, 70 transload facilities, more than 50 steel processors, and 150 scrap metal locations, which has enabled our company to become a transportation leader in the steel industry. Additionally, we serve 67 quarries, 30 aggregate distribution yards, and 15 cement facilities to meet the needs of the diverse construction market. Sufficient equipment supply is another area of focus at Norfolk Southern, and, with more than 20,000 cars in the Metals & Construction fleet, there is plenty of capacity available to meet our customers’ needs.

The customer’s need for competitive and available rates is an area we plan to improve in the commoditized Recyclable Metals and Substitutes market. To address this issue we have earnestly worked to provide competitive rates in our public quote. Read more here.

• Effective July 1, 2009, the Recyclable Metals new public quote (NSQ 72823) with increased rate coverage from known origin and destination points will become available for use to all of our most valued customers.  These rates are currently available for viewing via accessNS
