Norfolk Southern Launches Web-based Car Order System

Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) has launched an Internet system that gives customers the ability to order merchandise carload rail equipment for loading the following week or up to several weeks in advance.

The Car Order application (eCARS), which is part of Norfolk Southern's Thoroughbred Information System (TIS) suite of Web-based e-commerce applications, enhances equipment demand forecasting to better ensure that Norfolk Southern will know the type of equipment needed and the desired date for loading.

Other applications deployed under TIS include Customized Reports, Mileage Inquiry, Demand Trace, Coal Transportation Management System, Diversion and Reconsignment, Waybill Verification Inquiry, Shipment Weights, Shipment History and Bill of Lading.
