Public Relations - Corporate Communications

Prefer: Sophomore or Junior in a Journalism or Communications Program with at least a 2.8 GPA/4.0 overall; 3.0/4.0 in major. No travel/relocation/living allowance provided. Salary for this full-time position depends on class level at the time of employment. Students must commit to at least two alternating semesters to be considered for the co-op position.

All co-ops who are active employees on or after January 1, 2005, will be paid according to the following:

Class Standing Monthly Salary
Freshman $1920
Sophomore $2125
Junior $2335
Senior $2545
Graduate $2835

Location: Norfolk Southern Corporation - 3 Commercial Place - Norfolk, VA
Work Period: Spring, Summer, Fall
Hours: Monday through Friday - 8:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M.
Reports To: Director Corporate Communications and Manager Internal Communications

Description:   Student will research, organize and write copy for use in wide range of NS printed informational pieces. Student will also participate meaningfully in as many different elements of the Corporate and Employee Communications program as practical. May be asked to assist in administrative duties on occasion.

Skills:  Prefer some experience in writing/editing for university or other publications. Requires strong verbal and writing skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills. Should also possess knowledge and experience in computer equipment and related functions. Should be familiar with Associated Press style.
