Car Maintenance and Engineering

Prefer: Students in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with at least a 2.7 GPA overall and a 3.0 GPA in major. No travel, relocation, or living allowance is provided. Salary for this full-time position depends on class level at the time of employment. Students should be eligible to work a rotation of three work semesters.

All co-ops who are active employees on or after January 1, 2005, will be paid according to the following:

Location: NS Mechanical Department - 185 Spring Street, Atlanta, GA
Work Period: Fall , Spring, Summer
Hours: Monday - Friday - 7 AM - 4 PM (May vary)
Reports To: Manager Car Maintenance

Description: Student will work with Car Maintenance and Engineering Staff. Primary duties will involve AutoCAD drawing of car class diagrams and detail drawings, as well as scanning existing car drawings into the AutoCAD system. Student will assist with development of new Dispo/Wreck/Repair tracking system. Student will also assist with audits of closed freight car scrap sales and tracking of multi-level scrap programs. Student may be involved with occasional trips to field sites to gather project information, data, and measurements. Student will attend safety and training classes during work term as required.

Skills:  Must be able to operate AutoCAD with some degree of skill. Knowledge of Windows 95, Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word is also preferred. Should be willing to study reference material to resolve problems, make suggestions for improvements, and design projects.
