Roanoke Locomotive Shop - Locomotive Shop Facilities & Special Project Position

Prefer: Student in Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial Engineering with at least a 2.7 GPA overall and a 3.0 GPA in major. No travel, relocation, or living allowance is provided. Salary for this full-time position depends on class level at the time of employment. Students should be eligible to work a rotation of three work semesters.

All co-ops who are active employees on or after January 1, 2005, will be paid according to the following:

Freshman $1920
Sophomore $2125
Junior $2335
Senior $2545
Graduate $2835

Location: NS Roanoke Locomotive Shop - 8 1/2 Street & Campbell Ave., - Roanoke, VA
Work Period: Spring, Summer, Fall
Hours: Monday - Friday - 7 AM - 4 PM (may vary)
Reports To: Manager Roanoke Locomotive Shop

Description:  Student's primary responsibility is design and engineering for custom shop projects, ergonomic tooling, and improvements to existing equipment, including locomotive parts and equipment.

Skills:  Must be familiar with and able to operate AutoCAD with some degree of skill. Knowledge of Word Perfect / Word and Quattro Pro / Excel is also preferred. Should be willing to study reference material to resolve problems, make suggestions for improvements, and design projects.
