Work Period: Spring, Summer or Fall (May work for two consecutive semesters)
Hours: Monday through Friday; generally 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Reports To: Senior Manager - Operations Research

Education: Enrolled in Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or Management Science from an accredited university. Master or Ph.D. students in the related areas are preferred. The candidate must be enrolled during the semester in which he/she is employed. Undergraduates must have attained Junior or Senior status to be considered for position.

Experience: Prefer candidates with practical experience. Knowledge of SQL, Windows Office/2000/NT/XP, Minitab, Visio, C++, UNIX, and Visual Basic (VB) would be helpful.

Requirements: Strong analytical skills. High degree of computer literacy. Aptitude for problem solving. Background in statistics and mathematical programming.

Responsibilities: Intern will assist Operations Research group to achieve its mission to support key internal customers, such as Transportation, Marketing, Strategic Planning, and Financial Planning. The assignments include, but limited to, building new optimization models, enhancing the existing models, and conducting statistical analysis. Intern will assist the OR group with developing decision support systems to improve assets utilization and reduce operating cost. The systems currently being development or to be developed are Operating Plan Developer (OPD), Strategic Fleet Planning Model (SFPM), Car Distribution Model (CDM), Crew Balancing Model and Delphi Corporate Forecasting. Intern will also assist with building Data Bridge for the rail network simulation projects using Rail Traffic Controller (RTC) to model rail operations and evaluate infrastructure proposals.
