Requirements: Solid RDBMS and development experience, developing programs with embedded SQL. High degree of computer literacy. Strong analytical skills. Aptitude for problem solving. Solid background in applied probably theory and statistics, and forecasting. Superior organizational skills.

Skills:

Education: Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics from an accredited university.Should be enrolled in Masters of Science or technical track MBA program.

Assignment description: Intern will be required to explore statistical-forecasting as an alternative to current Marketing forecasting process. The intern will conduct in-depth analyses to identify the optimal selection of waybill characteristics at which statistical forecasting should be employed. In addition to identifying at the appropriate level of aggregation by minor commodity group, the student will be required to develop a data pre-processing process for the inputs to the statistical forecast models in order to remove outliers, traffic that no longer recurs and spot traffic, and address data quality upstream to the models. The student will be responsible for analyzing and documenting forecasting performance, and comparing accuracy measures, using a holdout sample, of the statistical forecasts and published forecasts with budget against actuals.

The cost benefits of statistical forecasts will be enumerated, and documented in a white paper. In addition to periodic PowerPoint presentations on project status, weekly status reports and project plans will be expected.
