Norfolk Southern has co-operative education opportunities for individuals interested in a Human Resources career. Students must commit to at least two alternating semesters to be considered for the co-op position. Salary for this full-time position depends on class level at the time of employment. Full-time is defined as 40 hours each week.

All co-ops who are active employees on or after January 1, 2005, will be paid according to the following:

Freshman $1920
Sophomore $2125
Junior $2335
Senior $2545
Graduate $2835

Majors Preferred: Norfolk Southern will consider candidates pursuing a Business degree with an interest in the Human Resources profession or candidates pursuing MIS, IT, and CSI degrees with an interest in the Human Resources profession. Candidates must meet a minimum 2.8/4.0 GPA overall; 3.0/4.0 in major. No relocation, travel or living expenses are provided. Salary for this full-time position depends on class level at the time of employment.

Description: This position will be responsible for providing support to the various groups within the Human Resources Department, such as Employment, EEO & Diversity, Compensation, Employee Benefits and Planning. The position may be involved in designing, testing, implementing and maintaining innovative technology-based solutions. This includes web-enabling our current Human Resources Information System (HRIS). The candidate will also be responsible for creating reports from various databases and systems.

Skills:  Students must be effective in working both as a team member and independently in a very fast-paced environment; must be familiar with PC operating systems, especially with WINDOWS 2000 and XP; must have working knowledge of MS Office Applications; and knowledge of LAN/WAN network connectivity is desirable. Web programming is also preferred.
