Board and management changes

At NS' annual meeting in May 1998, one NS director was elected to a one-year term and three directors were re-elected to three-year terms.

• T. Marshall Hahn Jr. of Atlanta, retired chairman and currently honorary chairman of Georgia-Pacific Corp., was elected to a one-year term.
• L.E. Coleman of Grantham, N.H., retired chairman and chief executive officer of the Lubrizol Corp.,
• Landon Hilliard, a partner in Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., a private bank in New York City, and
• Jane Margaret O'Brien, president of St. Mary's College, St. Mary's City, Md., were elected to three-year terms.

E.B. Leisenring Jr. of Philadelphia, chairman of the Philadelphia Contributionship, the nation's oldest insurance company, retired from the board in line with NS' retirement policy for directors.

In March, R. Alan Brogan, then executive vice president-Transportation Logistics, was elected to the new position of executive vice president-Corporate.

In July, several elections occurred.

• L.I. Prillaman, then executive vice president-Marketing, was elected Vice Chairman and Chief Marketing Officer.
• Stephen C. Tobias, then executive vice president-Operations, was elected Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer.
• Henry C. Wolf, then executive vice president-Finance, was elected Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer.
• Jon L. Manetta, then vice president-Transportation and Mechanical, was elected senior vice president-Operations.
• James W. McClellan, then vice president-Strategic Planning, was elected senior vice president-Planning.
• Phillip R. Ogden, then vice president-Engineering, was elected senior vice president-Engineering.
• Timothy P. Dwyer, formerly senior vice president-Unit Train Service for Conrail, was elected vice president-Marketing Services.
• Lewis D. Hale Jr., then assistant vice president-Mechanical, was elected vice president-Transportation.
• H. Craig Lewis, then regional vice president, was elected vice president- Corporate Affairs.
• Mark D. Manion, then general manager-Western Region, was elected vice president-Mechanical.
• Charles J. Wehrmeister, then assistant vice president-Safety and Environmental, was elected vice president-Safety and Environmental.

In August, Thomas C. Hostutler, then senior assistant vice president-Corporate Accounting, was elected vice president-Internal Audit.

Kathryn B. McQuade, then vice president-Internal Audit, was elected vice president-Financial Planning.

In September, Paul N. Austin, then vice president-Personnel, was elected vice president-Human Resources and assistant to Chairman.
