Portsmouth APMT Service Expansion

Norfolk Southern is pleased to announce the expansion of its on-dock rail services at the APMT Container Terminal located in Portsmouth, Virginia. The APMT facility is now operated by Virginia International Terminals, Inc. (VIT) and over the next few months, vessels that currently call at VIT’s Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT) will transition to the APMT Container Terminal.

As the transition proceeds, units converted from PMT will be added to our existing APMT services. In addition, NS will be expanding our on-dock rail services at APMT to mirror those we offer at NIT and PMT today. More information will be provided as this expansion progresses.

Some key points for customers:

• Units originating from or destined for vessels calling at Portsmouth Marine Terminal should continue to be routed via “Norfolk PMT, VA
• Units that originate at, or are destined to vessels calling at the APMT facility should be rail billed as “Portsmouth APMT, VA”
• All customers who currently have rail rates to PMT will automatically be issued rates for APMT terminal
• Any customers needing additional rates for APMT services should contact their NS Marketing representative

NS is excited about the opportunities these changes will provide to our customers. This, along with the completion of our Heartland Corridor project in late August, will enable shippers to experience the most efficient and direct double stack rail connection between the Virginia Ports and the Midwest.
