Norfolk Southern and BNSF Launch Steel-Wheel Transcontinental Service between Columbus and Los Angeles
Norfolk Southern and BNSF will launch a new steel-wheel transcontinental service for COFC traffic between NS' Columbus - Rickenbacker Intermodal terminal and BNSF's Hobart terminal in Los Angeles effective Monday, July 7th. This new service is tied to a collaborative effort by NS and BNSF to improve service and increase rail interchange of Chicago gateway traffic.
This new Columbus offering includes a steel-wheel interchange, expediting transit through Chicago, and will offer a 5th AM service both eastbound and westbound.
In addition, these new streamlined connections will improve service from Los Angeles Hobart to the following NS destinations by increasing frequency to 6 days/week:
- Cleveland, OH
- Detroit, MI
- Croxton, NJ
- Erail, NJ
- Elizabeth Marine Terminal, NJ
- Harrisburg, PA
- Morrisville, PA
- Norfolk, VA
- Norfolk International, VA
- Pittsburgh, PA
