Domestic

Our channel partners for domestic shipments include Intermodal Marketing Companies (IMCs) and asset-based carriers such as Truckload and Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) companies. These companies coordinate all aspects of the intermodal move while providing the shipper or receiver with a single point of contact and an ease of doing business comparable to truck. Our successful operating plan and superior terminal network create the speed and reliability that make us the preferred alternative to the highway and offer our customers a distinct competitive advantage. Our signature products include transcontinental guaranteed services between the West Coast and both the Northeast and the Southeast, and services in our local network's "Golden Triangle". Our Chicago, IL, Harrisburg, PA, and Atlanta, GA, facilities make up the core "triangle" of our network, allowing fast, efficient, consistent service throughout the twenty-two states we directly serve east of the Mississippi River.

Domestic shipments can include everything from raw materials to finished consumer goods. We handle railroad owned or private trailers and containers, including 45', 48', and 53' trailers and 48' and 53' containers. Norfolk Southern provides customers complete access to quality equipment though our domestic container equipment program, EMP (Equipment Management Program).
