Rickenbacker Intermodal Terminal – Columbus, OH

On March 3rd, Norfolk Southern welcomed customers to its new Intermodal terminal in Columbus, Ohio.  The 250 acre Rickenbacker Intermodal terminal, located at the Rickenbacker Global Logistics Park will provide customers with access to key Midwest markets, as well as increased terminal capacity and an enhanced level of service, including:

  • Direct Intermodal train services to/from Norfolk and the Chicago gateway for movement to/from the US West Coast
  • Automated Gate System (AGS) to expedite draymen in and out of the facility, while improving the equipment inspection process
  • Increased parking capacity and a better terminal layout that improves the flow of equipment on the terminal and reduces time your draymen spend on the facility
  • Close proximity to shippers and receivers in one of the fastest growing distribution hubs in the US.

RickenbackerOne of the most prominent features of the Rickenbacker Intermodal Terminal is its proximity to the Rickenbacker Global Logistics Park (RGLP).  The 1,300 acre RGLP is the latest property to be developed at the Rickenbacker complex, and joins the existing multi-modal cargo airport, multiple industrial parks and U.S. Foreign-Trade Zone.  At full build out, the RGLP will include up to 20 million square feet of warehouse and distribution space, giving NS Intermodal customers easy access to one of the most dynamic and integrated logistics parks in the US.

The Rickenbacker Intermodal Terminal is the first of three new Norfolk Southern terminals to be added as part of the Heartland Corridor Project.  The Heartland Corridor Project is a public-private partnership whose purpose is to expand capacity, improve service consistency and reduce transit times between Norfolk ports and Columbus and Chicago.

The Heartland Corridor will improve the route between Norfolk, VA and the Midwest by expanding tunnel clearances to allow double-stacked Intermodal trains.  Additionally, new terminals are planned for Roanoke, VA and Prichard, WV as part of the project.
