NS is dedicated to hiring a talented, dedicated, and diverse workforce. NS believes strength, initiative, and creativity are born of employing people with diverse skills, education, and social, cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
NS promotes equal opportunity employment and a workplace free of discrimination and harassment. As an employee, you reflect that commitment in your everyday interactions with colleagues and customers, helping ensure our place as the employer of choice.
As an NS employee, you have an impact on the company’s EEO efforts and share in the responsibility to ensure compliance with fair and equal treatment of all employees.
You benefit from EEO policies because they ensure that you and everyone with whom you work receives pay, benefits, transfers, promotions, furloughs and recall, training, tuition assistance, access to social and recreational programs, and disciplinary action without discrimination on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, age, status as a covered veteran, sexual orientation, gender identity, the presence of a disability, genetic information or any other legally protected status.
Impact on training and promotions
NS encourages and monitors the participation of minorities, women, veterans, and individuals with disabilities in company-sponsored training opportunities, including company orientation and advanced management training. Training activities and in-house workshops help employees gain skills for advancement as well as sensitivity to human relations and EEO issues.
NS is committed to promoting talent from within the company and bases recommendations for promotion on criteria such as job performance, skill, safety, discipline, and education.
Supporting affirmative action
NS practices affirmative action to support hiring minorities, women, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.
NS makes special effort, often by coordinating with government agencies, state employment offices, and colleges and universities with large female and minority enrollments, to encourage qualified women to seek employment in nontraditional jobs and to encourage minorities, veterans, and individuals with disabilities to apply for positions at all levels.
NS makes reasonable accommodations to support individuals with disabilities in performing essential job functions and to support employees’ desire to participate in religious observations.
What to Do about EEO Policy Violations
Any employee who feels that he or she has witnessed or been subject to conduct that violates NS EEO policy is required to immediately notify their immediate nonagreement supervisor or the Corporation’s EEO office. It is not sufficient to report concerns to any other individual, including supervisors to whom an individual does not immediately report, supervisory agreement employees, or co-workers.
If you have made or attempted to make a report to your immediate nonagreement supervisor, but your immediate nonagreement supervisor is unavailable or is part of the complaint, you are uncomfortable with reporting the complaint to your immediate nonagreement supervisor or are dissatisfied with his or her handling, or you feel that the violation has continued despite your initial report, it is both your right and your responsibility to report your concerns to the Corporation’s EEO office. Reports to the Corporation’s EEO office must be made using the toll free number 1-888-TALKEEO (825-5336) or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
