Winter Storm Gail – Update & Related Chicago 47th Ingate Closures

Winter Storm Gail continues to hammer the Northeast with heavy snow and gusty winds, with over a foot of snow accumulated in some areas. The storm is expected to pull away from the region today with weather conditions improving by late afternoon.

Due to the impact of the storm on the Northeast region, effective today at 4:00pm CST, we will be closing ingates at Chicago 47th for all local and interline shipments billed to the following destinations:

  • Albany (Mechanicville)  
  • Ayer
  • Bethlehem
  • Harrisburg
  • Erail
  • Taylor

As mentioned in the Winter Storm Gail customer advisory published yesterday, December 16th, the ingates remain closed to all local and interline shipments in the following lanes:      

  • Chicago 63rd <> Croxton
  • Chicago 63rd <> Rutherford

Our Intermodal terminals in the Northeast continue to operate under normal hours.  

Customers are strongly advised to review local forecasts and Department of Transportation information for updates regarding local road conditions in the impacted areas.

Norfolk Southern Intermodal provides 24/7 automated information services for shipment tracing, billing verification, and storage charges (including the Last Free Day) through our Touch-Trace voice response system at 800-497-2919. Customers and dray carriers can also utilize AccessNS and ExpressNSTM for information concerning their shipments.
